Summer 2024
Hey CSA members!
How was last week? Did you SALSA it up?? Hoping you’re enjoying everything.
For those of you with a flower add-on, I’ll be doing one this week and one next week. That will be all 8 of them! The blooms are starting to slow down, and I want to capture that summer beauty for you before it’s too late. Check your dropsite tomorrow for the add-on!
I also want to remind everyone that you only paid for 14 weeks of the CSA. If you DID NOT use any vacation days, your last CSA is next week! Wow, the season is coming to a close quickly. If you used one vacation day, you have two weeks left. And if you used both, your last CSA is on September 25th. If you’re not sure when your CSA will end, just shoot me an email and I’ll let you know. You can still take vacation days next week or the following week if needed. Just shoot me an email.
Also, is your calendar marked with the CSA member party? We will be hosting a farm potluck and tour on Sunday, September 22nd at 3:00pm. You’ll need to bring yourselves and some food! Bonus points if you include a CSA veggie in your dish! Haha, in reality any food is welcomed at the party to celebrate. Bring your kiddos if you have them, and please leave dogs at home.
This week was a tough one for me. Our harvest is winding down and I can really feel it. September always brings a big shift in production and my focus turns from maintaining, to clear harvesting. At this point I’m pulling whatever can be still picked and mowing down old crops. I wish the bounty felt bigger this time of year, but we’re just soaking in whatever’s leftover in the field. We harvested pumpkins and spaghetti squash today; they are curing in the greenhouse, you’ll find them in your box in a couple weeks! I guess I’ll keep taking it as it is on the farm and have gratitude for the things that are still pulling through for me. Too much water and some soil disease impacted my second successions of crops and I’m definitely feeling that as we head in the final weeks of the CSA. The beets are officially done and I’m hoping my second succession of carrots bulks up enough in time for the final CSA week. We’ll just take it a week at a time!
After a loooooong harvest and CSA day (12 hours start to finish!) it’s time for me hit the hay and rest up before tomorrow’s delivery route. Here are a few photos from the week:

Some Inspiration…
This week, everyone received a special type of pepper; the shishito pepper! These are a green, mind grilling pepper. There is a claim that 1 in 10 peppers had some spice, but I’ve pretty much only encountered mind ones. They are served best when pan fried whole over medium-high heat in a little bit of olive oil and sprinkled with salt. Here is a recipe to guide you:
If you want to try something a little more fun with your shishito peppers, you can also make creamed shishitos! It’s a creamy spread packed with flavor from the peppers that you can dip crackers or veggies in, or spread on sourdough. Here is the recipe:
